Coventry Core Strategy.
Examiner's report to be discussed at council meeting on 6th July

Following the publication of the examiners report council officers Jim Newton (Principal Planner, Joint Policy) & Trevor Errington (Assistant Director, Planning and Transportation) have produced Report 7.1 , a precis of the examiner's findings. A full council meeting, to be held at 2pm on Tuesday 6th July, will discuss this and the current action to be taken with regard to the core strategy.

A note on the council website states:
Please note: As a result of the new government's public commitment to abolish Regional Spatial Strategies, we have suspended further work on our Core Strategy until there is clarity about new responsibilities and roles for local authorities. Once we have this clarity we will be issuing a public statement about our future plans. more....

GREENBELT RALLY

Saturday 24th April 2010
Coventry City Centre

The Rally was excellent –
a lot of people were on the march, and we attracted a good deal of attention through Broadgate.

Mike O’Brien, Geoffrey Robinson, Nobby Clarke, John Mutton, Andrew Burtenshaw and other prominent figures were there. Conspicuous by their absence were any Conservative members of Coventry City Council. Perhaps they were uncomfortable about defending the Core Stragey?

meeting.

28th December 2009 starting from the
"Hare & Hounds"
Watery Lane, Keresley Green

The guided walk around Keresleys' greenbelt was extremely well attended with over 400 people joining in. The ramble covered the area proposed by Coventry City Council for an Eco- Suburb. The strength of opposition to this scheme was displayed with people power objecting to the building of 7000 houses on greenbelt land surrounding Keresley & Ash Green.

By 10.45 many people had already gathered in the car park of the "Hare & Hounds" and still 15 minutes to go before the start.

With an 11 o'clock start enthusiastic ramblers gather around the starting tape.

Whilst over 100 walk leaflets were distributed to families many were left disappointed. The leaflet shows the walk route plus notes on some of the archeological features of the area. Click on the leaflet below to download a copy.

The tape was cut jointly by three Coventry Councillors who joined this protest walk:

Russel Field, Ken Taylor and John Mutton.

Also joining the walk were Coventry Councillors Roger Bailey, Brian Kelsey, Marcus Lapsa, Andy Matchet, Joe Clifford, John McNicholas, Dave Chater, Rachel Lancaster and Mal Mutton plus Nuneaton and Bedworth Councillor Damon Brown.

Apologies were received from the Lord Mayor Jack Harrison and Councillors Linda Bingham, David Skinner, and Angela Waters who, as they had prior commitments, were unable to come.

With the tape cut everyone is keen to get started.

The morning weather had started with a fog. The latter half of the participants can be seen stretching back into the distance as far as the footpath kissing gate opposite the "Hare & Hounds".

Towards the front one of the walkers takes some photos.

On the busy Bennetts Road marshals ensure that everyone crosses safely.

Bob Brolly from Coventry and Warwickshire radio joined the walk at this point.

The fog has lifted and a queue forms to go through the kissing gate on to Fivefield Road.

Walkers make their way up Hounds Hill towards Bunsons Wood.

With Bunsons Wood behind walkers near the end of the ramble. With blue skies and fairly firm underfoot an enjoyable time was had by all.

With Fivefield Road now on the horizon walkers make their way back to the "Hare & Hounds" for well refreshments.
